In this episode of Art in Bloom, we are joined by Haley Mellin, a North American visual artist, land conservationist, and founder of Art into Acres.
Mellin’s artistic practice is profoundly rooted in the natural world. Working outdoors in a seasonal studio, she creates observational paintings in gouache, a water-based medium, and drawings in charcoal, a plant-based carbon material. In 2017, she founded Art into Acres, an artist-run nonprofit dedicated to supporting permanent, large-scale land conservation on behalf of the arts community.
In our conversation, we explore Mellin’s inspiring journey, the evolution of her practice, and her unique perspective on seeing both her paintings and her conservation work as integral expressions of her artistic practice.
