Dr. Robert Seufert is a retired professor emeritus of over three decades from MacMurray College in Jacksonville.
Sherri Mitchell is a lifelong singer, actress and musician with a family deeply rooted in Jacksonville and its performing arts community.
As partners-in-art, Seufert and Mitchell continue their series of critically acclaimed performances at the Jacksonville Public Library.
Here's a synopsis of the show from Sherri:
A bedridden invalid for much of her life, forbidden to marry by her Victorian father, already past the age at which a woman was considered a spinster, Elizabeth Barrett would have had little hope or prospects of marriage. But when some of her poetry caught the eye of her younger fellow-poet Robert Browning, he was immediately smitten. Never one to shrink in the face of impossible odds, Robert not only met and wooed Elizabeth but eventually convinced her to elope with him to Italy. The story of this fascinating courtship is the subject of a two-person presentation featuring Sherri Mitchell and Robert Seufert. Drawing upon letters, poems, and the 1930’s Rudolf Besier play “The Barretts of Wimpole Street”, this dramatization is a loving recreation of the unfolding relationship of two remarkable people.
