The HOME hosts kicked things off by discussing New Year's resolutions, noting a statistic that 88% of resolutions fail by February 1st. The team shared personal strategies for success, such as making ”atomic” or small measurable goals, writing objectives down for accountability, and debating the merits of quarterly three-day fasts.
Jake Nuckols from DoorTek Garage Door Service joined the studio to discuss his role as the show’s new title sponsor and the evolution of the family business. He detailed modern garage door trends like wood-grain ”plank” doors and flush European steel styles, noting that a new garage door currently offers a massive 268% return on investment. Jake also highlighted technological advancements like Wi-Fi connectivity and battery backups, as well as the company’s expansion into motorized Phantom Screens for garages and porches.
Allan Malina, president of Servus Capital Management, stopped by to discuss his ”purpose-driven” approach to financial planning. He explained that his firm’s name, Servus, is Latin for ”servant,” reflecting his goal to serve clients' specific dreams rather than pushing cookie-cutter products. Allan warned against common mistakes like ”emotionally” draining retirement accounts to help relatives with short-term needs and emphasized that parents should prioritize their own retirement savings over funding 100% of their children's college education.
