Impolite Company with Demetra Gray

Impolite Company with Demetra Gray
Podcast Description
Questioning popular opinions & narratives of control.
Demetra's bio: Somehow at the ripe young age of 32 I have lived many lives inside of just this one. Among other things I have been a yoga studio owner, “feminist instigator,” internet provacteur, poet, and a sex & relationship coach… before I fell into a spiritual “feminine business” cult from 2020-2022. I shut my business down, blew the whistle on that cult, and took the next couple years to heal and sort through that experience. I'm a former hardcore liberal turned... somehow quite conservative?
Above all I have always been a writer, with freedom of speech and expression as my top value - one I have been willing to defend at any cost. I believe that without our ability to share what we truly think and feel with the people in our lives we do not have real freedom. And when our minds are hijacked without us knowing, we also do not have real freedom.
I created this podcast to give a space to talk freely about any and every topic, no matter how controversial. I think people in this day and age are afraid to speak up and I'd like to encourage others to do the same.
I am also the creator of a Substack called "Every Day the Sun Rises" where I investigate narratives of control and explore changing beliefs. It looks at a wide range of topics, from the culty viewpoints that invade our society, to actual cults and other corruption, to writings on what I call “the life of life” - essays on the beauty of being human and alive (I am still a poet at heart, after all).
My husband Jordan is a popular relationship coach & he joins me for some episodes here as well. We collaborate together in multiple creative fronts.
Let us expose the dark places to the light.

We live in a time when it’s hard to know what to trust or who to believe. Above all, it’s important that we are allowed to question things and are allowed to speak. This podcast is about people who change their minds & worldviews and why. It’s about unpopular opinions and how evil can masquerade as good. It’s about questioning everything and the willingness to be wrong. It’s about not walking on eggshells and the freedom of discussion between different parties without making judgements about the character of someone for holding their beliefs. It’s about whistleblowers and former cult members and telling the stories of people who speak out. It’s about being the one who is willing to speak and be considered “impolite” in society as long as it means we are holding up the truth to the light. If you’d like to tell your story, send me an email at [email protected].
A 28-year-old woman from the Netherlands joins us (anonymously) to talk about her experience with body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria, how she hated her breasts and wanted to cut them off (from puberty until age 25), and how she ended up discovering through therapy she was engaging in for another reason that this feeling was a result of memories she had completely suppressed of sexual assault. This story coincides and intertwines with her experience of finding God. She grew up in an atheist family and ended up playing around with the occult and New Age practices, only to have an absolutely chilling experience of a demonic spirit attacking someone in front of her, which turned her toward God. She is now deeply Christian. We discuss evil and our experiences with Christianity and how it’s easier to fight the enemy when you know it well.
