Emma Aspeling is an abstract visual artist working in and around Cape Town. I have followed her work ever since I first stood in front of one of her paintings at 99 Loop Gallery. We talk about the question so many of us keep returning to, whether we are really artists at all, and how Emma works from the body rather than the head, letting movement and intuition guide her marks.
We also explore the seasons of a creative life and why we were never meant to work at the same pace every day. Emma’s offering to her younger self is one many of us need to hear, that you do not need to have it all figured out before you begin.
