This November, Hekaya Haven embarks on a five-part series exploring religion, with a particular focus on Christianity: its origins, evolution, influence and place in our lives today. Across the series, we will take a closer look at the histories, beliefs, traditions and institutions that have shaped Christianity, while creating room for questions, different perspectives and conversations that are not always easy to have.

In this first episode, we go back to the beginning to explore how Christianity emerged, why religion matters, and the historical forces that shaped the faith as we know it today.

From the human need for connection, predictability and ritual to Jesus' beginnings within Judaism under Roman rule, we unpack how a small religious movement evolved into one of the world's most influential religions. We explore the role of political power, collective belief, African spiritual traditions and the importance of looking beyond scripture when examining religious history.

Approaching the subject with curiosity rather than judgement, we invite listeners to question what they have been taught, reconsider familiar narratives and explore the history behind their beliefs.
