Colin Lock’s passing brought together a community that often finds itself on opposite sides of the pitch—but on this day, they stood united in love and respect.
Colin wasn’t just a photographer; he was the heartbeat of women’s football in the North East. For over a decade, he captured moments that might’ve otherwise gone unseen—volunteering his time, uplifting grassroots teams, and championing the game long before it had the spotlight.
Newcastle United Women, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and countless fans paid tribute to his legacy. His daughter Courtney, now a coach at Sunderland, shared how he inspired her journey and how his lens preserved memories for families across the region.
And in a beautiful gesture, supporters from both Newcastle and Sunderland joined a memorial walk from the Stadium of Light to St. James’ Park, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in Colin’s honour. It’s rare to see football rivalries dissolve like that—but Colin’s impact was bigger than the game. He brought people together, and even in his passing, he continues to do so.
