Natalie Stewart joins the conversation to share her journey as a veteran nurse and her current role as the Wellness Director and lifestyle medicine coach at St. John’s Health. She reflects on her extensive “womb to tomb” nursing career, which spanned from labor and delivery to hospice care, providing her a deep appreciation for the vulnerability of the human experience. The episode highlights her pivotal transition into coaching, a practice she describes as an “antidote” to a distracted world through the sacred gift of presence and deep listening. Stewart describes the unique Wellness Center she leads, which is positioned at the hospital’s “front door” and staffed entirely by Wellcoach graduates. She offers practical wisdom on navigating the healthcare industry, explaining how a “coach approach” can build authentic rapport with stakeholders while utilizing evidence-based research to support the benefits of coaching. Ultimately, Stewart illustrates how integrating the pillars of lifestyle medicine with professional coaching creates a culture of health and dignity that “pulsates” throughout a medical system.
